The MLCA (along with the BIA and The Military Museums) presents a Jane’s Walk!

Learn about the history of Canadian Forces Base at Currie Barracks, the decision to bring a military base to Calgary and the impact on Marda Loop, the surrounding areas and the development of the Garrison Woods community. Starting with the story of Currie Barracks we will then wend our way past former PMQ’s with local historian Harry Sanders, former CFB Pastor Lloyd Northcott, volunteers from the Military Museum and from the Marda Loop BIA History Project, regaling you with historical information, anecdotes and stories about those who helped shape Marda Loop and Altadore as well as what would become the Garrison Woods community. The walk ends at the historic Garrison Square Park, adjacent to the popular destination of Marda Loop, where you can later gather for coffee and treats and take in a little shopping.

The meeting location is at the end of a residential street called Somme Manor and Somme Way SW. You can access on foot or bike by pathway or road from 33rd Avenue like Jane Jacobs might have done. Parking available in the neighbourhood or check transit. The #20 Calgary transit bus has a stop right at the meeting point.
