Sustainability
Our Sustainability committee is focused on the following priorities for the Marda Loop Communities Association (MLCA):
- organizing community engagement and educational events to promote the 17 United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals and developing sustainable initiatives/action plans to address some of these goals within the MLCA community.
- encouraging energy conservation, use of renewable energy, minimal waste and offering support, training and recognition to local businesses and community residents for environmental and sustainable practices.
MLCA Solar Panels - Energy Savings and Carbon Reduction
The roof of the MLCA Community Hall is home to a 16 kilowatt (kW) solar panel setup generating 15.0 megawatt-hours (MWh) annually. That’s enough electricity to power two (2) average Calgary homes for an entire year!
For the 2024 fiscal year (April 1st, 2024 to March 31st, 2025), we are happy to announce the following results:
MLCA Community Cleanup Day
We hosted our annual Community Cleanup on June 30, 2025 and it was a resounding success! Residents from across the community came together to meet, donate, swap, and recycle household goods. We even managed to completely fill up the Women in Need Society (WINS) truck with donations by noon. A sincere thank you to all of our volunteers and our participants!
